One-to-one therapy
Kids Konnect offers one-to-one therapies for children with ADD and ADHD as well as with learning difficulties or poor attention and concentration. Addressing issues related to children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder is a particular area of experience and expertise.
Other issues we address in one-to-one therapy include:
- anxiety
- behaviour management
- sleep issues in children
- childhood depression
- parenting issues
- grief and loss.
What to expect from a first visit
You will not need a referral or be expected to complete any paperwork before you visit Kids Konnect. You will need a doctors referral if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate for your visits. However please bring any reports that may be relevant to your child.
Depending on the circumstances, we may initially see parent/s alone, such as with behavioural issues. In other cases, e.g. for assessments, the child needs to become comfortable with us at our clinic prior to the assessment commencing.
On your first visit, we will discuss the child’s background and issues and look at setting some therapeutic goals and strategies. Please call us on 0415 312 285 to make an appointment.
Group therapy
Group therapy is usually a positive experience for children as they learn they are not alone in dealing with a particular issue. For socially-isolated or anxious children, group therapy can help them better relate to their peers, find their voice and develop confidence.
Kids Konnect also offers group therapy for the family and foster carers. Facilitated by a professional Psychologist, this type of therapy can help the family develop more effective ways of communicating and managing behaviour, leading to a happier, more harmonious family.
School/Home visits
In some circumstances, it may be important to conduct therapy with your child in a school or home setting rather than in our clinic.
If difficulties are occurring primarily in the home, an in-home session may be useful to support parents with ‘fine tuning’ strategies.
With the school’s permission, observing your child at school or childcare allows us to gain further insight into the relevant issues and the child’s functioning from the teacher’s perspective. Where appropriate we can provide the teaching staff with strategies to assist them in the school or daycare setting.
